As global awareness and demand for Korean food continues to grow, a survey released Monday found that Korean fried chicken has been named the world's most popular Korean food.



According to the "2025 Overseas Korean Food Consumer Survey," jointly conducted by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs and the Korea Food Promotion Institute, fried chicken ranked first in both preference and frequency of consumption among respondents who had tried Korean food in the past year. The survey polled 11,000 consumers, 500 per city, in 22 major cities around the world.



Kimchi and bibimbap followed, followed by bulgogi, ramen, and kimchi fried rice. Fried chicken and kimchi were nearly tied in frequency of consumption, with 28.3% and 28%, respectively, over the past year.



Sixty-eight percent of survey respondents said they were familiar with Korean food, a 2.9 percentage point increase from last year and the highest level since the annual survey began.



Satisfaction was also high. Among respondents who had tried Korean food, 94.2% reported being satisfied, and 80.6% said they would eat Korean food again. This figure surpassed 80% for the first time since the consumer loyalty survey began. This interest translated into actual behavior, with 71.7% of respondents saying they had visited a Korean restaurant in the past year.



However, there were regional differences.



Satisfaction and willingness to revisit were significantly higher than average in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam; Manila, the Philippines; Shanghai; Jakarta, Indonesia; Beijing; London; Dubai, São Paulo, the United Arab Emirates; Sydney; and Hong Kong. Conversely, Tokyo, Rome, Paris, the Taiwanese capital Taipei, Singapore, and Toronto received lower ratings, with Tokyo in particular showing the lowest satisfaction and willingness to revisit for the second consecutive year.



Over 65% of respondents said they had tried Korean food or become interested in Korean cultural content, demonstrating the growing intertwining of Korean culture and food exports.더 읽어보기
